At their annual banquet in March, Soroptimist International of Portland-East made monetary awards and bestowed honors to young women who are making a positive difference in our community and their own lives. Named for the first president of Soroptimists, the Violet Richardson Award honors young women who volunteer their service making our community a better place. Women’s Opportunity Awards are monetary awards assisting young women who are primary breadwinners that must enter the workforce or upgrade their skills through education.

Soroptimists is an international volunteer service organization for women in business, management and the professions. Soroptimists mission is to improve life for women by identifying needs and working through targeted services to address those needs. Soroptimist International of Portland-East works to advance families in East Portland and Mid-Multnomah County by empowering women through fund-raising, then contributing to both individuals and non-profit community organizations. For more information about the Portland-East chapter, call Theresa Delozier at 503-674-3430.
