The annual Parkrose Community Fair, now in its seventh year, began as an art event for Parkrose High School students to exhibit their different pieces of art produced throughout the year. Student dance performances were also part of these first years.
Senior Art Department member Bev Cordova and ceramics art teacher Bill Hunt (now retired) organized that first art event that was wholly produced and presented by their students. Due to its popularity and success, the administration stepped in five years ago and expanded the event into what is today. The Fair has become a school and community wide event that includes all student organizations and clubs, the community at large and local businesses. Entertainment, food, art, games, music and dance are all part of the Parkrose Community Fair The largest exhibition of art and student performance still remains the heart and soul of the Fair.
A large school hallway is converted into a gallery for the exhibition. During this show, Over 250 pieces of both two and three-dimensional art will be exhibited. The public is invited to vote for “best of show”. Over 400 votes were cast for best of show at last year’s event. The Parkrose Community Fair is Saturday, June 4 from 11 am to 4 p.m. at the Parkrose High School Community Center, 12003 N.E. Shaver St. For more information contact Alesia Reese 503-253-4414.
