Community invited to dialogue on Bull Run The Portland Water Bureau is hosting a community open house about Endangered Species Act compliance in the Bull Run watershed and restoring fish habitat in the Bull Run watershed on Monday, May 16 at East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. The Bull Run River is the primary drinking water source for more than 800,000 Oregonians. This water source is essential to the communities of the region and to threatened winter steelhead, fall Chinook salmon and spring Chinook salmon. Over the last 100 years, the city constructed two large dams and reservoirs on the Bull Run River to store water. Water is diverted from the Bull Run River to meet the water supply needs of the Portland metropolitan area. Operation of the Bull Run supply system results in reduced river flows, warmer water temperatures and altered habitat. As stewards of the Bull Run watershed, the Portland Water Bureau is committed to complying with the Federal Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act, while continuing to provide high quality drinking water. Join staff from the Portland Water Bureau Fish Restoration Program to learn more about water system impacts, potential solutions, and costs.
