While the furor has died down, it is important to remember that the United States still has troops deployed far from home. The good news is that some of those troops are returning home. Among those is Parkrose grad, Ryan Bartley (class of 2001). The son of Don and Bonnie Bartley, Ryan enlisted with fellow Bronco, Nick Jones who was featured in this column last month. They met on the Parkrose Swim Club while in junior high, swam for the high school team and played water polo together. Close friends, they joined the Marines together and while they are in different units and have different jobs, they have been able to spend time together while in the Middle East.

Currently stationed somewhere near Kuwait City, Bartley is with the 1st Force Reconnaissance Company. Responsible for logistics his duties include routing mail, parachute repair and a myriad of other support duties. According to his mother, Bartley is scheduled to return to Camp Pendleton in the near future. She says he has “2 years and 1 month left of his tour of duty, but who’s counting!”

If you would like to let Bartley know that you appreciate his contribution and commitment to his country, write him at LCPL Bartley, Ryan; IMHG FWD, 1st Force Recon Co.; UIC 43616; FPO AP, 96613-6616. Mail will be routed to him, regardless of his location.

If you have a family member in the military and would like your Mid-County neighbors to know about it, send the information to The Mid-county Memo, 3510 N.E. 134th Ave, Portland, OR 97230. E-mail us at editor@midcountymemo.com. Or call us at 503 287-8904.
