Fun-O-Rama fills Gateway

Weather doesn’t stop Fun-O-Rama fun

Members of the Woodland Wonders Unicycle Club rode in from Fairview to be in the Fun-O-Rama Parade. They won the first place award for Best Bikes Group. See Fun-O-Rama story on page 14.

The second full week in May gave rise once again to the Gateway Fun-O-Rama. Produced and presented by the Gateway Area Business Association (GABA) this year’s kick-off event was the Inaugural Fun-O-Rama Golf Tournament at Glendoveer Golf Course on Saturday May 10. Fifty or so golfers teed it up on an overcast morning to win cash and prizes.

Thursday, May 15 brought the carnival to town. Running through Sunday, May 18, carnival operators, Davis Amusement Cascadia, filled the vacant lot behind JJ North’s Grand Buffet with fun rides, midway games of skill and the wonderful aroma of cotton candy and corn dogs. While rain kept folks away the first few days, a sunny Sunday provided a successful conclusion to the carnival run.

The signature event, of course, was the Fun-O-Rama parade on Saturday, May 17. With in excess of 70 entrants ranging from classic cars, marching bands and hand made floats the parade was enjoyed by friends and neighbors all along the mile long route on Northeast Halsey Street.

Following the parade, area businesses handed out giveaways and information and awarded prizes to lucky raffle ticket holders at the annual Gateway Community Fair, held this year at 111th Square.
