It’s time to consider preschool
Gethsemane Lutheran Preschool at 11560 S.E. Market St. is taking registrations for the school year beginning in September. Parents of children who will turn 3 or 4 years old by September 1 should call Karla Hills at 503-256-1835 for more information or to register.

Youth tackle football registrations approach
If you will be in grades three through six in September 2006 and are interested in playing tackle football, now is the time to pre-register for David Douglas Youth Tackle Football.

The district is committed to fielding at least two teams in the Tualatin Valley Youth Football Association League. There is a maximum of 30 players per team. The goal is for one third/fourth grade combined team and one fifth/sixth grade combined team.

Spots on the roster will be filled quickly so don’t delay. The total fee before June 7 is $106. After June 7 it will cost $116.

Parents, please plan to attend the parent meeting June 7 at David Douglas High School football stadium at 6 p.m. If you would like more information, call 503-261-8206.

Seniors gather for lunch
Cherry Blossom Loaves & Fishes Center dining room located in the East Portland Community Center at 740 S.E. 106th Ave. serves lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Each meal includes salad, bread, beverages, your choice of two entrées and dessert for a suggested donation of $2.75.

The menu includes scratch Chinese options on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, a fresh entrée salad bar and soup on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a make your own ice cream sundae station on Thursdays.

Growing church expands options
Woodland Park Baptist Church, 11375 N.E. Halsey St., is growing. To better serve the community, Pastor Ken Blondeaux will offer two worship services each Sunday. The identical services will feature a blended music format with offerings of contemporary praise songs and hymns as well as a sermon. Choose from a 9 or 11 a.m. start time. All community members are welcome.

Masses celebrate Easter season
The Grotto, located at Northeast 85th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard, will celebrate Palm Sunday Mass, April 9 at 10 a.m. Weather permitting, the blessing and distribution of palms will be held outdoors.

The Mass of the Lord’s Supper is on Holy Thursday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Good Friday, the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion is April 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Holy Saturday, or the Easter Vigil Mass, is April 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Easter Sunday Masses will be celebrated on April 16 at 10 a.m. and noon.

MEETINGS
Bowling and business offered at chamber events
The semi-annual “Fools Bowl” Bowling Tournament tops the April events calendar for the East Portland Chamber of Commerce. Home Run Graphics and the chamber sponsor this tournament on Saturday, April 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hollywood Bowl, 4030 N.E. Halsey St. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for children, and include 3 games, shoes, pizza, dessert and prizes.

In addition, each Wednesday morning, from 7:30 to 9 a.m., a different member of the East Portland Chamber of Commerce hosts the “Good Morning East Portland” networking meeting. The meetings are free, and guests are welcome. On April 5, Linda Smith of Notes of Celebration will host the meeting at CherryWood Village, 1417 S.E. 107th Ave. Richard Kiely of Home Run Graphics will host on April 12, also at CherryWood Village. The April 19 meeting will be at ExecuTech Suites, 5933 N.E. Win Sivers Drive, and will be hosted by Mike O’Leary of Pre-Paid Legal. The final meeting of the month will be hosted by Bob Bonnell of Syd Dorn Vehicle Buyers Service and will be back at CherryWood Village.

Other chamber activities include public affairs programs, educational seminars, ribbon-cuttings for new businesses, golf and bowling tournaments, and social activities. The chamber also keeps members updated through a weekly newsletter and its interactive Web site, www.EastPortlandChamber.com.

Budget will be discussion topic
The East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, which includes all of Multnomah County east of the Willamette River, will hold its regular monthly board meeting on Monday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 443 of Montgomery Park, 2701 N.W. Insurance professionals invited to learn about time management
East Portland Insurance Professional will meet on April 5 at 5:30 p.m. at JJ North’s Grand Buffet, 10520 N.E. Halsey St. This meeting is open to all insurance agents and support staff. The discussion topic will be time management. The meeting and dinner cost $10 per person.

New Kiwanis Club seeks new members
The combined Gateway and Columbia View Kiwanis Club invites new people who either live or work in the community to join the club for lunch. Look members over and see what fun they have and the great work they do for the community. Then think about becoming a member.

Women making a difference
