National Night Out is celebrated in Mid-County
National Night Out is a community event focusing on crime prevention and drug activity, held the first Tuesday of August every year. The 22nd annual event this year was held Aug. 2.
National Night Out is designed to heighten community awareness of crime and drug prevention; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
In Mid-County, Argay, Parkrose Heights, Parkrose, Maywood Park, Glenfair, Wilkes and Russell neighborhood associations organized and planned events this year.

Glenfair Park at Northeast 154th Avenue and Davis Street was the site for Glenfair Neighborhood Associations National Night Out celebration. One of the many organized activities for kids featured a good, old-fashioned three-legged race. Portland Parks & Recreation Park Rangers were out in force during the 22nd annual National Night Out festivities. Portland Parks & Recreation Park Rangers provide a positive presence in Portlands parks by meeting park users, monitoring activity and enforcing park rules such as noise ordinances. Rangers observe and report crime and other serious problems to the Portland Police Bureau, and maintain contact with Portland Parks & Recreation maintenance staff. |
