How do Mid-county restaurants rate?
There are approximately 3000 restaurants in Multnomah County, about 350 in east Portland.

Multnomah County Health Department Environmental Health Specialists conduct unannounced inspections of food service establishments. These inspectors ensure food safety by evaluating food worker habits and practices; where food comes from; how it is stored in the restaurant; how food is prepared and cooked, cooling, holding and reheating temperatures.

A restaurant must receive a score of 70 to pass the inspection.

Designed to identify violations that can contribute to food-borne illness, inspectors report observed violations that do not comply with Oregon Revised Statute 624 and Oregon Administrative Rule.

Unable to be corrected at the time, a “Reinspection” means the inspector found priority violations that must be corrected within 14 days and verified by a re-inspection. Re-inspections are not scored.

Until the final correction is complete, a safe, alternative procedure must be in place. If corrections are not made, the restaurant faces closure.

Customers can a placard on the restaurant entrance that indicates if a facility passed the last routine health inspection.
