Letters...

The Mid-county Memo is your newspaper. We want to hear from you. Discuss an important issue or address a concern you want to call to the attention of the community. We prefer e-mailed letters to the editor sent to Darlene Vinson at editor@midcountymemo.com. Please put “Letter to the editor” in the subject line. You may also mail your letter to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave., Portland, OR 97230 or fax it to 503-249-7672. Deadline for the November issue is Tuesday, Oct. 15.

A waste of good brandy
To the Editor:

It is not usual for me to laugh so loud and hard that I spit high quality brandy droplets into the air, but that is exactly what I did in a rather compressed fashion this last Thursday evening when I read Mr. Mark Gardner's reply to a letter written a few months earlier in your fine publication by a Mr. George Spota.

Many of us in Parkrose have put up with Mr. Gardner's self congratulatory rants for well over a decade now. I am old enough not to have forgotten Gardner's complicity in secretly giving illegal* cash payments to a former superintendent. I have not forgotten how two women had to come along and clean up Gardner's and the rest of the board's mess. Nor have I forgotten how he then worked to recall these dear angels from the board. And yes, he got trounced in that effort too.

The voters have spoken-AGAIN. And Mr. Spota spoke eloquently for us all two months ago. Mr. Gardner just give it up and leave us alone! We do not have to join you in all of your fake causes and activities, as you suggest, before our collective voices have value. We do our job by voting and continuing to pay our taxes. We are ecstatic that you, Mr. Gardner, can no longer dip into our pockets.

Mr. Gardner! Are you listening? The vote is in. You are out. Please, just give us a break from your nonsense. Allow us a little peace while we enjoy a drink on a cool September's night.

With regards,
Robert M. Dunagan
Argay resident

*To be legal, the payments had to be given by a public vote for all to see. The payments were given quietly, behind closed doors, hence, secret and illegal. (Footnote provided by author.)
