Sun and Mun rise together in Menlo Park

Mun Chang speaks with pride as he tells of the secret homemade sauces used in the preparation of Japanese fast food dishes he and his family serve at Happy Teriyaki, 12427 Northeast Glisan Street in Menlo Park Plaza. Aided by son, Yujin, and daughter, Yumi, Mun and wife, Sun, use their own style of cooking to create menu items ranging from appetizers to sushi and tempura.

Chang estimates that nearly half of Happy Teriyaki’s clientele is comprised of seniors who come in to meet with their friends and neighbors. The Changs strive to provide the quick service and comfortable atmosphere their customers seek.

Migrating to the US from South Korea in 1980, the Chang’s have worked in the restaurant industry for 17 years serving cuisine ranging from hamburgers and sandwiches to Mexican and now Japanese. While there are currently four Portland area Happy Teriyaki locations, all begun by Chang, he now owns only the Menlo Park location while retaining the right to the Happy Teriyaki trade name in the state of Oregon.
