Mid-County scholarship program gives local women a chance to earn and learn

On Saturday, March 29 at 7 p.m. in the Mt. Hood Community College Theatre, 26000 Southeast Stark Street a new 2003 Miss Multnomah County, Miss Clackamas County and Miss Metro East will be crowned and move on to the Miss Oregon Scholarship Program held July 10 in Seaside. A General Admission ticket is $10. To get tickets call Judy Marsh School of Dance at 503-253-8002.

There are four phases to the March 29 competition: private interview (held beforehand), swimsuit, evening gown and talent.

Miss Oregon goes on to compete in the Miss America Scholarship Program. Mid-county’s own Katie Harmon, Miss Multnomah County in 2000, went on to wear the Miss America crown in 2002. Each local entrant receives a $100 scholarship. Each local title winner receives $1000, the 1st runner-up gets $500 and a two non-finalist interview and talent winners receive a $250 scholarship.

Miss Oregon winner receives $10,000 in scholarships and Miss America receives $75,000 in education scholarships.
