Memo Pad...

To fully serve the community, the Mid-county Memo offers this section to showcase upcoming special events, celebrations of milestones in our readers’ lives, those seemingly small accomplishments that often do not receive the recognition they deserve, and everyday events that should be shared with friends and neighbors.

To insure publication in the Memo Pad, please send submissions for each month by the 15th of the previous month. Memo Pad submissions for the May issue are due by Tuesday, April 15. For best results, e-mail Darlene Vinson at editor@midcountymemo.com. Or mail editorial submissions to 4052 N.E. 22nd Ave., Portland, OR, 97212-1503. To leave a phone message, call 503-287-8904.

Hidden treasures to be discovered in Portland
Clean out the garage, rifle through the closet, open up the attic - Portlanders will have a big incentive for doing some spring cleaning this season. That’s because Elders in Action is hosting its third annual Timeless Treasures benefit on Wednesday, April 30.

Similar to the ever-popular antique television appraisal programs, Timeless Treasures gives the public the chance to have their favorite heirlooms, antiques and treasures professionally evaluated by some of Portland’s best appraisers. From books and antique watches to dishware and decorative items, well-known professional appraiser Gary Germer from Gary Germer and Associates, will help attendees determine whether they have a rarity or refuse in their possession.

Elders in Action’s Timeless Treasures benefit will be held at the Cascade Crest Banquet Center at the Oregon Zoo Rotunda. Tickets are available by contacting Elders in Action at 503-823-5269. Costs are $30 for seniors (age 60 and older) before April 15 and $35 after that date. Tickets are $50 for general admission.

Ticket holders will have the opportunity to have one antique collectible professionally evaluated, as well as enjoy a buffet dinner and live music. Some surprises may be in store for a few lucky event-goers, as they learn the assessed value of their possessions. “It’s an exciting event,” said Becky Wehrli, Elders in Action. “Some attendees have been amazed to learn they have items worth hundreds, even thousands of dollars in their possession.”

The Union Bank of California sponsors Elders in Action Timeless Treasures benefit. Proceeds from the event benefit Elders in Action Ombudsman Services, which offers personal, one-on-one volunteer help and assistance to local area seniors. Elders in Action is a leading non-profit advocacy group for Portland area seniors, offering personal support, educational programs, advocacy and volunteer services for local seniors. For more information about Elders in Action or to reserve tickets for the Timeless Treasures event, call 503-823-5269.
