Holy Week at The Grotto The following liturgies celebrating Holy Week will be observed at The Grotto, on Northeast Sandy Boulevard and 85th Avenue: Palm Sunday, April 13, 10 a.m. - Weather permitting, the blessing and distribution of palms will be held outdoors by Our Ladys Grotto, followed immediately by Mass in the Chapel of Mary. The Stations of the Cross will be celebrated at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Mary. Holy Thursday Liturgy, April 17, 7:30 p.m. - The liturgy of the Lords Supper will be celebrated in the Chapel of Mary. There will be no noon mass on Holy Thursday. Good Friday Liturgy, April 18, 7:30 p.m. - The celebration of the Lords Passion will be celebrated in the Chapel of Mary. Daily Mass is not celebrated on Good Friday. At 3 p.m., The Way of Our Sorrowful Mother will be celebrated, also in the Chapel of Mary. Holy Saturday, April 19, 7:30 p.m. - There is no daily mass on Holy Saturday. Easter Sunday, April 20, 10 a.m. and noon - Easter Masses will be celebrated in the Chapel of Mary. For more information, contact The Grotto at 503-254-7371. Easter Breakfast Parkrose United Methodist Church will serve Easter breakfast from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 20. The menu will feature pancakes, ham, eggs, juice, tea and coffee at a cost of $4 for adults, $3.50 for children under 12, and $15 for a family. The United Methodist Men will be cooking and serving. Proceeds will help to send children and youth to summer camp. All are welcome. After the breakfast and some fellowship everyone is invited to attend Easter Services at Parkrose United Methodist Church, 11111 N.E. Easter Feast and Fellowship Hope Lutheran Church of the Deaf invites Mid-County residents to a feast and fellowship service on Easter Sunday, April 20. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 - 9:45 a.m. Worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. at 11100 N.E. Skidmore St. inside the Our Savior Lutheran Church building. Handicapped access is available. For information, please call 503-252-0706. Earth Day 2003 SOLV IT is the largest Earth Day event of its kind in the nation. All kinds of cleanup and restoration work will be accomplished. Nearest our area is the Beggars-Tick Wildlife Refuge, 111th Avenue and Southeast Foster Road. Help remove loads of litter and invasive Himalayan blackberry from a 21-acre wetland. Located along the Springwater Corridor Trail, the refuge was named after a species of native sunflower. Home to a variety of native plant species and wildlife, Beggars-Tick provides open water for migratory waterfowl in the winter and plenty of habitat for other bird species throughout the year. Cruise In The Road Knights car club will host a Cruise In at Jim Dandys Restaurant at 9626 N.E. Sandy Blvd. on Saturday, May 17 from noon - 4 p.m. This is an open event featuring dash plaques, awards, raffle prizes and music. Registration is $10. CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS Your neighborhood associations The East Portland Neighborhood Associations invite you to join them with involvement in your neighborhood. Neighborhood Associations are involved in a variety of functions and activities all centered on the goal of maintaining or improving the livability of the area. Neighborhood Associations: Provide a public forum for discussion of community issues through regular neighborhood meetings and special events. Inform residents of activities in the neighborhood through newsletters and notices. Build community though neighborhood events, celebrations, and activities such as cleanups. Serve as a citizen participation vehicle for the City of Portland. Neighborhoods receive notification and can respond to public review of city policy changes and actions, such as land use reviews. The East Portland Neighborhood Office (EPNO) supports the 12 east Portland neighborhoods with their community involvement activities. If you would like to learn more about your neighborhood association, contact EPNO or attend your next neighborhood meeting. Public speaking 101 Toastmasters International is a group of individuals dedicated to improving their public speaking, presentations, listening, thinking and leadership skills. All members learn and practice speaking skills at their own pace, and with the support and help of the other members.
