Produced by the Oregon Food Bank, this is an innovative produce recovery program distributed every month at the East Portland Community Center at 740 S.E. 106th at 10:30 a.m. The free produce is available on a first come, first served basis. Bring your own bag in which to carry the fruits and vegetables home. One of the host organizations responsible for this program is the YWCA Senior Service Mid County Branch. While they have a dedicated group of volunteers, they are seeking more helping hands to assist in serving the 150-170 families that avail themselves of this program each month. Volunteers will be asked to assist with crowd control and with bagging and distributing produce. Those who speak a second language may find themselves especially needed as a broad range of ethnic groups is frequently represented at these events. Your assistance will be needed from about 9:30 a.m. until noon. If you or your group is interested, contact Elizabeth Burmeister at YWCA Senior Services, 503-988-5480 ext 26687 or elizabeth.burmeister@co.multnomah.or.us Other partners in this effort are Loaves & Fishes and the East Portland Community Center.
