MBank puts money where its mouth is Tim Curran The Mid-County Memo
MBank employees signed up and were dispatched in teams of five to do major work for these organizations. What a great idea this is. Imagine if every corporation of this size or larger did this in our community. We want MBank employees to get out and participate in bettering the communities in which they live, work, and play, said Tom Perrick, president. As a true community bank, we want to be part of continuously improving the communities we serve. We are proud to demonstrate our commitment to our communities through this event. MBank employee volunteers served in a variety of ways during the inaugural Community Service Day. At Oregon Food Bank, MBank volunteers stocked shelves with donated items and prepared shipments. Shipments of food totaling over 3,800 pounds supplying over 2,600 meals to hungry people in our neighborhoods. Gresham Parks Department Administrative Analyst Justin Cutler looked forward to working with MBank employees at the Nadaka Natural Area on Northeast Glisan Street in Rockwood. Its great when a local company gives back to the community through volunteer work like this, Cutler said. Working in the Nadaka Natural Area is especially significant its part of the overall revitalization of the Rockwood area. MBank employees cleaned over 5,000 feet of fence line, removed 50 pounds of ivy, performed a general clean up of the 10-acre area, and made this park in an economically disadvantaged area safer for users. At the offices of SnowCap, a community charity providing emergency food, assistance and clothing in mid and east Multnomah County, MBanks help is always appreciated. MBank has wonderful volunteer enthusiasm, said Judy Alley, executive director of SnowCap. They dont just provide financial support they also do real work. They have been supportive of our work for so long, and they deserve all the support and thanks we can give them. In two days the MBank volunteers painted and refurbished SnowCap offices, allowing a cleaner work environment for those who work and volunteer to provide needed services to the economically disadvantaged. MBank continues to look for and encourage innovative ways to participate in and give back to the communities it serves, said Perrick. We look forward to growing our community relationships and service opportunities along with our company. MBank serves the community in a variety of ways throughout the year. In 2005, MBank contributed 7% of its net income over $130,000 to sponsorships, donations, in-kind contributions, and monthly public service radio messages. The bank also offers an employee matching program for charitable donations, matching employee contributions up to $250 per year for donations to the charity of the employees choice. MBank supports numerous organizations through its various efforts, including: My Fathers House, Mt. Hood Medical Center, Doernbecher Childrens Hospital, YWCA of Greater Portland, and the Gresham Center for the Arts.
