Memo Letters...

The Mid-county MEMO is your newspaper. We want to hear from you. Discuss an important issue or address a concern you want to call to the community’s attention. We prefer e-mailed letters to the editor sent to Darlene Vinson, at editor@midcountymemo.com. Please put “letter to the editor” in the subject line. You may also mail your letter to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave., Portland, OR 97230 or fax it to 503-249-7672. Our deadline for the December issue is Monday, Nov. 15.

Warning, plea for help

To the Editor:

We want to warn those using the Glendoveer walking and jogging trail: Don’t leave your I.D. or valuables in your car, even if they are out of sight. Our car was broken into while parked at the 148th Avenue and Halsey Street parking lot on Friday, Oct. 1. Returning from the two-mile trail about 5:15 p.m., we saw the thieves’ full size van parked to obscure their breaking into our front passenger side window. They saw us, sped off, but we were able to get their license number. Off duty Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office officers Dave and Sandee Sine lent us their cell phone to call 911. My purse, which had been locked in the front passenger drawer, was stolen. Also, our 8mm TR66 Sony video camera was stolen.

A friend later told us that she had seen two young women looking in her car as she returned from her walk, shortly before our car was broken into. The two women saw our friend and turned to start up the trail. They were obviously casing the parking lot.

Our request for help! The video camera held a tape with greetings from our 90-year-old mother who lives in Canterbury Gardens Alzheimer Facility in Longview, Wash. It also contains a reply from her 86-year-old sister in Atlanta, Ga. Our mother had not yet seen the tape.

We would very much like to get the video camera and tape back. If any one sees it being sold, we would appreciate your calling Officer Scott McCollister at Portland Police Bureau’s East Precinct at 503-823-4800.

Thank you.
