Paddle by the light of the moon Join the Columbia Slough Watershed Council paddling guides for a full moon tour of the tree-lined reaches of the Columbia Slough. Bring your own canoe or kayak or call to reserve a free boat from the Council. Reserve your boat today. Spaces are limited. Community centers host Halloween carnival Plan now for the 8th Annual Halloween Carnival hosted by East Portland and Montavilla Community Centers. A fun evening of carnival games, face painting, and crafts will delight young and old. Tickets for these activities can be purchased at a cost of four tickets for $1 at the door. Bring two cans of food for the Oregon Food Bank and receive up to four free tickets per family. This event is appropriate for preschool and grade school age children accompanied by an adult. There will be special games for children under age four. Be sure to wear a costume and march in the parade at the conclusion of the carnival. A hotdog dinner will be available for only $3. Seniors invite tiny Trick or Treaters to visit The Firwood Gardens Residential Care Center, 819 N.E. 122nd Ave., once again invites local tots to begin their Halloween fun at the center. Bring your little monsters on Monday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. sharp for a morning of fun in a safe community of older adults. Council offers workshop Find out how groundwater works, what role it plays in our drinking water system, and what needs to be done to protect this important resource. Groundwater experts from the Columbia Slough Watershed Council will lead this Groundwater 101 Workshop in a casual classroom-style. A short tour will follow the discussion. This workshop is free however registration is required. Light refreshments will be provided. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A location is yet to be announced.
