Carnival to feature food and family fun
The 5th Annual Neighbor Carnival Night at Russell Academy, 2700 N.E. 127th Ave., is set for Friday, May 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This will be a fun family night — a classic old-fashioned school carnival. Burgerville will be cooking up the burgers. Foods will include nachos, drinks, popcorn and more. There will be games for all ages along with a raffle and a silent auction. Food and game tickets will be sold at the door — four tickets for $1. All money raised goes directly back to the school to benefit the students.

Students, their friends and families, and the surrounding community are invited to join the fun.

Join ride for education
There are approximately 70 computers for 820 students at Parkrose Middle School.

Parents and faculty of these students believe that increasing the number of computers and computer programs available will enhance the education provided and support this critical time in educational development.

With that in mind, they have planned a fun-filled bicycle ride through the Parkrose School District on Saturday, May 19. Sign up for a two-mile, five-mile, 10-mile or even a 20-mile ride intended to showcase the district and community support. All ride proceeds will be applied to a new computer lab at the middle school.

Staggered starts begin at 8 a.m. at the middle school, 11800 N.E. Shaver St. The ride will conclude at 1 p.m. and will be followed by a barbecue hosted by the Parkrose Bronco Boosters.

To register or to learn more, call 503-408-2900.

Perennials offered at historic farm
There will be a plant sale on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the 1874 Zimmerman Heritage Farm, 17111 N.E. Sandy Blvd in Gresham. The sale will feature homegrown perennials. The Fairview, Rockwood, Wilkes Historical Society sponsors this event. Proceeds will be used for maintenance of the museum and grounds. For more information call 503-261-8078.

Buy plants, create butterfly habitat
There will be a native plant sale at Midland Park on Sunday, May 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. This small natural park is located at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Morrison Street, behind the Midland Library. Jane’s Park Group, Midland Library and Portland Parks & Recreation sponsor the event.

Many of the plants to be sold have been planted and cared for by students at Ventura Park Elementary School. The proceeds from these plants will go to support the programs at the school.

There will also be some plants donated by members of Jane’s Park Group and other organizations. The proceeds from the sale of these plants will be used to cover the costs of the sale and for the new butterfly garden at Midland Park.

Stop by to buy some plants, support local students and visit the newly planted butterfly garden at the park. To learn more contact Linda Robinson at 503-261-9566 or lrobins@pacifier.com.

Spring carnival is coming
The Parkrose Bronco Boosters will present a community-wide spring carnival on the evening of Friday, May 25 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the high school, 12003 N.E. Shaver St.

The theme is Beach Blanket Bingo. When you and your children attend this event, you provide direct support to PHS students. Throughout the academic year, the Boosters raise funds for student activities that would not be possible without this help.

Whatever your plans for the Memorial Day weekend, start the celebration at the PHS carnival. Don’t miss the kissing booth, cakewalk, raffle and lots more. To volunteer to help at the event, contact Allison Newman-Woods at allison@behavioralecon.com for details.

THE ARTS
“Romeo and Juliet” to conclude season
The Parkrose High School Theatre plans a unique presentation of “Romeo and Juliet” as its final offering of the school year. This timeless and reckless story of love and conflict between two families will be presented May 10, 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. This production will take place in a black box format that seats the audience on stage with the action. Tickets will be $5 at the door. The theatre is located at the high school, 12003 N.E. Shaver St. For more information, please call 503-408-2621.
