SCHOOL CORNER
Grad party planning gets underway
It is December, but the class of 2007 will graduate in a few short months. The Parkrose High School Class of 2007 Senior All Night Party committee meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the high school library, 12003 N.E. Shaver St.

At the Dec. 11 meeting, parents and other interested adults will select the theme of the party, establish pricing, begin party planning and have the first chance for the best chaperone duties.

SENIOR RESOURCES
Senior mentors needed in schools
The OASIS Intergenerational Tutor Program seeks adults, age 50 plus to help a child learn to read. Training and materials are provided. Previous experience is not necessary. The program coordinator will be at Midland Library on Thursday, Dec. 14, at noon to talk about the program and answer questions.

Mid-county school tutors will be placed at Menlo Park, Gilbert Heights, Gilbert Park and Ventura Park elementary schools. For more information please call Colleen Shannon at 503-833-3636.

MEETINGS
Public invited to board meeting
The East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, which includes all of Multnomah County east of the Willamette River, will hold its regular monthly board of directors meeting on Monday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. in Room 443 of Montgomery Park, 2701 N.W. Vaughn St. The agenda will include discussion of updates to the safety policy, planning for the annual meeting, new program policies, development of a system by which to evaluate the district manager, a staff report and other items of business, some of which may be discussed in an executive session. Enjoy lunch, or help with project
The Russellville Kiwanis Club invites you to its December meetings each Wednesday at noon for lunch and a special program. The first meeting of the month is a board meeting, and on Wednesday, Dec. 13, representatives from Elders in Action will be on hand.

Please note that the Dec. 20 meeting will be a working meeting. Members will assist SnowCap Community Charities with a Christmas basket and toy distribution project. Contact Charlie Ross at 503-252-1570 to learn more about this project.

There will be a special Christmas program presentation at the Dec. 27 meeting. With the exception of the meeting on Dec. 20, all meetings are at Russellville Park, 20 S.E. 103rd Ave.

Club members welcome you to visit and to think about becoming a member of this active club that volunteers time and energy to many projects in our area, including SnowCap, Mt. Hood Camp for Disabled Children & Adults, DayBreak Family Shelter, Ronald McDonald House and others.

Brown bag lunch series to address clean rivers, stormwater management
Each month the Portland Bureau of Development Services offers citizens a chance to discuss development issues with BDS staff and other experts.

On Friday, Dec. 8, from noon to 1:30 p.m. the discussion topic will be Stormwater Management and Clean River Rewards.

Participants will learn exactly what the Stormwater Management and Clean River Rewards program is, who benefits, what discounts are available and how to register.

Bring your lunch to join in this free discussion at 1900 S.W. 4th Ave., second floor conference room 2500-A.

CHURCHES and SERVICES
Participate in community Advent Festival
Gethsemane Lutheran Church, located at Southeast 117th Avenue and Market Street, is hosting an Advent Festival for the community on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

This is a free event. Children and adults will be provided materials and instruction to create Christmas gifts for family and friends. Light refreshments will be provided.

Gift projects include candle making, wooden cars, table decorations and many other interesting projects.

Remembering lost loved ones
The Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes, 1515 N.E. 106th Ave., invites you, your family and friends to join in its annual Service of Remembrance. The service will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, with a memorial tribute to loved ones lost during the past year and a reading of their names. The service will conclude with refreshments and fellowship.

Tom Baker will be the speaker. Paul Quarino will provide special music.
