Parkrose High gets ready for a new year
Parkrose High School main office opens Monday, Aug. 14. Summer office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. New students are welcome to pick up and return enrollment forms and book counseling appointments to register for fall semester courses during this week.
New and returning students have specific times and dates for picking up class schedules, paying course fees and taking ID card photos in advance of the 2006-07 school year. Students new or returning to Parkrose should complete enrollment forms and provide proof of residency prior to registration.
Thursday, Aug. 17, is fall sports registration and registration for English Language Learners from 8 to 11 a.m.
On Friday, Aug. 18, seniors can register from 8 to 1l a.m. Juniors get their turn from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Sophomores will register from 8 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, followed by the freshmen from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
New students meet with counselors Tuesday-Friday, Aug. 22-25 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. by appointment only. Appointments should be scheduled through the main office.
The school is located at 12003 N.E. Shaver St.
Ice Cream Social and yearbook distribution
The editors and staff of Equus Ferox, the Parkrose High School yearbook, invite students and graduates to pick up their pre-purchased books at the Ice Cream Social on Thursday, Aug. 24. Freshman family barbecue at Parkrose
Administrators and faculty at Parkrose High School welcome the Class of 2010 and their family members with a free barbecue. Burgers, hot dogs and other picnic foods will be served at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29 in the Student Center, 12003 N.E. Shaver St.
Grads mark 20 years

The committee has been working hard to find classmates, but your help is needed. Please send contact information you have on classmates so the committee can get in touch with them. Also, if you would like to sponsor the reunion with a donation, sponsor a classmate to attend the reunion, or assist with the reunion planning, please contact the committee.
The entire weekend will cost $90 per person. Kids are free. Events will be at the Pala Lounge on Friday, Embassy Suites on Airport Way Saturday, and Blue Lake Park on Sunday.
Class of 56 plans golden reunion
The Parkrose High School class of 1956 will hold its 50th class reunion at The Refectory, 1618 N.E. 122nd Ave. on Saturday, Sept. 16. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. Dinner will follow at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Sept. 17, the group will reconvene for a family picnic at Red Sunset Park, 2403 N.E. Red Sunset Drive off Hogan Road in Gresham, from 11 a.m. until dusk.

76ers to celebrate with golf and dancing
The Parkrose High School class of 1976 will gather on Aug. 11 and 12 to reminisce. There will be a reunion golf scramble on Friday at Heron Lakes Golf Course with a casual gathering to follow. Senior volunteer reading tutors needed
The OASIS Intergenerational Reading Tutor Program seeks seniors to mentor in nearby elementary schools. Training, materials and monthly support meetings are provided. No teaching experience is necessary. Tutors are matched with a young child and work one-on-one for one hour a week during the school year. Colleen Shannon, the program coordinator, will be at Midland Library on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. to talk about the program and answer questions. Local Kiwanis group extends invitation
Are you interested in good fellowship, new friends, and giving service to the community? If so, Russellville Kiwanis invites you to attend one of its weekly meetings. They will buy your first lunch so you can get to know them and see if you would like to become a member.
They meet every Wednesday at Russellville Park, Southeast 103rd Avenue and Burnside Street, from noon to 1:15 p.m. It is an informal meeting with an interesting program each week. The schedule for August includes a general membership and board meeting on the first; the agenda for Aug. 9 and 16 are yet to be announced. Liv Nevin Gifford of Thats My Farmer, a community food security program, will be the guest on Aug. 23. Karen Stelter of Providence ElderPlace will speak on Aug. 30.
Russellville Kiwanis gives service to the local community through such organizations as SnowCap Community Charities, DayBreak Family Shelter, Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp for Special Needs Children and Adults, Ronald McDonald House, and Parkrose Little League.

Monthly meeting is set, agenda announced
The East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, which includes all of Multnomah County east of the Willamette River, will hold its regular monthly board meeting on Monday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. in Room 443 of Montgomery Park, 2701 N.W. Vaughn St. The agenda will include discussion of support for watershed councils and proposed new district programs such as conservation easements as well as other items of business. Orientation for BDS Web site
The monthly city of Portland Bureau of Development Services lunch time meeting will introduce interested parties to the bureaus new Web site.
On Friday, Aug. 11 from noon until 1:30 p.m., attendees will learn about interactive tables and diagrams that describe the development review process, whether a permit is needed, and how to report a violation. Staff will discuss how to apply for non-reviewed trade permits and file code appeals online and will explain about online land-use services. The Residential Fee Matrix shows permit fee costs for different types of projects.
