Credit union kicks off school supply drive
All six branches of Unitus Community Credit Union will be accepting new school supply donations during the month of August.
Each branch of the credit union has adopted a school within five miles of its branch.
The Mall 205 branch, located at 10555 S.W. Washington St., will be collecting supplies for Clark Elementary, 1231 S.E. 92nd Ave.
Its incredible to hear that as the school year begins, teachers can spend up to $1,000 from their own pockets to purchase supplies for their classrooms, stated Patricia Smith, Unitus president and CEO. Our teachers selflessly give to ensure students begin the school year with the needed supplies to enhance their learning. Unitus is pleased to offer assistance to our teachers, and (we) appreciate the positive impact they have on our children and our communities.
Last year, Unitus collected over 1,000 new school supplies, including backpacks, crayons, pencils, pens, rulers and spiral notebooks. The credit union is attempting to double its donations for the 2006-07 school year.
To donate school supplies, visit www.unitusccu.com or check for the donation drop-off site at the Mall 205 branch in August.
Summers takes over State Farm Gateway office
Maybe youve noticed, maybe you havent.
Those Memo readers who travel along Halsey and Weidler streets in the Gateway area may notice a new name on the sign for our local State Farm Insurance agent. Kelly Manning Insurance Agency has become Chris Summers Insurance Agency, at the same address of 11157 N.E. Halsey St.
The change of ownership isnt a radical change, because Chris Summers is the husband of former owner Kelly Manning. Manning has a new leadership position within State Farm Insurance, and will oversee 23 State Farm Insurance agents on the west side of Portland.
Chris Summers Insurance Agency offers a full line of State Farm Insurance and Financial Services.
Prior to becoming a State Farm agent, Summers worked as a State Farm catastrophe team member, traveling throughout the country to assist customers in recovering from disasters during their times of need. He also worked as a medical representative, training physicians in the operating room on the use of specific medical equipment.
Along with Summers, the Gateway-area agency includes Mark ONeill, Amanda Bauldree, Kirsten Camp and Yalena Matos.
Summers is a graduate of Oregon State University, where he earned bachelors degrees in communications and psychology. He and Kelly reside in the Portland area with their two children. Summers and Manning are busy parents and active volunteers in the schools, community sports leagues and Habitat for Humanity.
State Farm insures more cars than any other insurer in North America and is the leading U.S. home insurer. State Farms 17,000 agents and 69,000 employees serve nearly 7 million auto, fire, life and health policies in the U.S. and Canada. State Farm offers financial services products through State Farm Bank.
