Memo Calendar... The Mid-county Memo is a newspaper dedicated to serving the community. One of the best ways to do this is by informing Memo readers of upcoming events of interest and meetings of groups they might like to join. Help connect our community! If you are part of a group that you enjoy, let your neighbors know about it. Publicize your special event or fundraiser here in the Mid-county Memo Calendar section. Submissions for each month are due by the 15th of the previous month. Please have Calendar submissions for November in by Tuesday, Oct. 15. We prefer e-mailed submissions sent to Dawn Widler, Department Editor at editor@midcountymemo.com. You may also mail complete information to 4052 N.E. 22nd Ave., Portland, OR, 97212-1503, phone 503-287-8904 or fax 503-249-7672. Special Events Cans Film Festival This month, Regal Cinemas and the Oregon Food Bank (OFB) are presenting an opportunity to see a movie and help a hungry person film festival. On Thursday, Oct. 3, moviegoers who donate three non-perishable cans or boxes of food at any Regal Cinemas in Oregon will receive free admission to the movie of their choice plus a free small popcorn. Starred attractions are excluded from this offer. Donations go directly to Oregon Food Bank, where they are distributed to regional foodbanks throughout the state. Locally, OFB distributes food to more than 250 hunger relief agencies. Oregon Food Bank distributed over 55 million pounds of food last year. Over 700,000 people ate from an emergency food box at least once last year. Of the estimated 150,000 people per month getting food from a pantry, 40 percent are children. A recent analysis of Census data by Brandeis University ranks Oregon as the # 1 state for prevalence of hunger. Help fight hunger in our state and see a free movie.
