Help Snow-CAP support our community
Snow-CAP, a Community Action Program, benefits many people in our area. This is made possible by the local volunteers who donate their time or money to help support those less fortunate in the community.

Snow-CAP runs several food and clothing programs for low-income residents of the Mid-county area. These programs have served over 4,000 different families in the last year. This translates to over 65,000 visits for various services. These programs include a shopping style food pantry, produce distribution on Tuesdays, a co-op-type program called Community Basket, a community garden, and a delivery program for low-income seniors called Food 2 You, as well as much more.

Our community works through volunteers from the community pitching in, providing time and donations to help those less fortunate make it through another Portland winter. Assist your community by supporting Snow-CAP. Call 503-674-8785 to volunteer, donate, or for more information about what you can do to help.

Local student wins scholarship
A student in the Mt. Hood Community College Hospitality and Tourism program has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

Heather Perrin-Maller is granted this scholarship to pay her tuition, books and miscellaneous living expenses as she enters her second year in the program at MHCC.

By describing her series of jobs in the hospitality industry and how she has learned from her experiences, Perrin-Maller’s essays were chosen for this top award, which is partially funded by the Coca-Cola Company. Perrin-Maller currently works at two Portland restaurants-Lucere and Sylvia’s-and plans to advance in this field upon graduating.

As part of the Hospitality and Tourism program, Perrin-Maller completed a summer internship at both the restaurant Lucere in the Riverplace Hotel and the hotel itself. She learned about management, kitchen operations and customer service. She will continue working at Lucere as a hostess.

“I’m glad that my experience helped me get this scholarship-and I’m grateful for being awarded such a big scholarship,” she said. “I came to MHCC to go into the Hospitality and Tourism program, and this shows that I’ve chosen the right field.” Congratulations to Heather Perrin-Maller.
