MEETINGS
New group selects name, plans meetings
Russellville Kiwanis is the new name of the combined Gateway and Columbia View Kiwanis Clubs. The two clubs have joined together to bring more service to our area and are working on the many details to make everything official. Jason Goodwill is the president of the new club and Cheryl Miller is the president-elect.
The group meets every Wednesday at Russellville Park, 103rd Avenue and East Burnside Street, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Men and women interested in doing community service are invited to visit and become active in this new club.
There will be a board meeting on March 1.
On March 8 the guest speaker will be Art Wahlers who will discuss the Ten Commandments on Dealing with People with Disabilities.
March 15 is Herb Tarlich Ugly Tie Day. This annual fundraiser honors the beloved character of WKRP in Cincinnati with an ugly tie auction. Rummage through your closet for a suitable tie for this fun event. You know you have one.
Multnomah County Community Outreach Worker Bob Earnest will help take the mystery out of the new Medicare prescription drug plans on March 29.
Check in by noon so the program can begin promptly at 12:15.
Business leaders meet each Wednesday morning
The East Portland Chamber of Commerce is an independent organization dedicated to serving the interests of businesses on Portlands Eastside - from the Willamette River to the city of Gresham.
Every Wednesday morning from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m., a different member of the chamber hosts a Good Morning East Portland networking meeting. The meetings are free and guests are welcome. Oda Research Group will host the March 1 meeting at ExecuTech Suites, 5933 N.E. Win Sivers Drive. On March 8 the host will be the East Portland Chamber Events Committee and the meeting will be at CherryWood Village, 1417 S.E. 107th Ave. Worksource Oregon will host on March 15 at 19421 S.E. Stark St. Be at Russellville Park, 20 S.E. 103rd Ave., on March 22 when Kevin Minkoff, CPA hosts. Finish off the month at Pacific Signs, 5075 N.E. 122nd Ave., on March 29.
Other chamber activities include public affairs programs, educational seminars, ribbon-cuttings for new businesses, golf and bowling tournaments, and social activities. Neighborhood associations working for you
Whether your concern is graffiti, street trees, a rowdy neighbor or crime, your neighborhood association can help you find answers. The Madison South Neighborhood Association general membership meeting is Thursday, March 2 at the Banfield Pet Hospital Corporate Headquarters, 8000 N.E. Tillamook St., and beginning at 7 p.m.
On Monday, March 13 the Centennial Community Association meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Harold Oliver Intermediate School, 15840 S.E. Taylor, Room 65.
One issue that impacts the Wilkes neighborhood is noise from aircraft either on approach to or departure from Portland International Airport. The Wilkes Community Group has been working with the Port of Portland and the Federal Aviation Administration since 1997 to find solutions. To voice concerns, it is suggested that you contact Rachel Wray with the Port of Portland Noise Management Office at 503-460-4837. WCG will meet on Tuesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Teamsters Complex, 1850 N.E. 162nd Ave. Your participation allows your voice to be heard.
The Avenue of Roses Committee of 82nd Avenue will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21 at Vestal School, 161 N.E. 82nd Ave.
Members of the Mill Park Neighborhood Association will meet on Tuesday, March 21 at Midland Library, 805 S.E. 122nd Ave., beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Parkrose Neighborhood Association will meet on Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 11100 N.E. Skidmore St.
The Parkrose Heights Association of Neighbors board will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The general membership will meet on Tuesday, March 28. Both meetings begin at 7 p.m. at Parkrose United Methodist Church, 11111 N.E. Knott St.
The Argay Neighborhood Association will meet on Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at Fire Station 2, 4800 N.E. 122nd Ave.
The Glenfair Elementary School faculty lounge, 15300 N.E. Glisan St., will be the site of the Glenfair Neighborhood Association general membership meeting on Thursday, March 23, at 7 p.m.
Town Hall meeting planned
Representative Jackie Dingfelder, representing Oregon State House District 45 - Northeast Portland, Maywood Park and Parkrose - along with Rep. Steve March and Sen. Avel Gordly will host a Town Hall meeting on Saturday, March 4.
This is an excellent opportunity to meet and discuss the topics that are most important to you. Time will be allotted for Q & A, so be sure to bring your questions.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and run until noon at the Hollywood Senior Center, 1820 N.E. 40th Ave.
Parents prepare for grad party
The next planning meeting for the David Douglas High Senior All Night Party will be on March 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the District Office Staff Classroom located at 1500 S.E. 130th Ave. The committee can use your help for upcoming fundraisers, which include Mothers Day baskets and the annual Rummage Sale.
The rummage sale collection container is located in the south parking lot of the high school and is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon to accept your donations of gently used kitchen and household items, tools, camping gear, books, and appliances in good condition and working order. Conservation district announces annual meeting
The East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its annual meeting on Monday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m. The annual report and financial statement will be distributed, and staff will report on district activities. The regular monthly board meeting at 6 p.m. will follow the annual meeting, agenda TBA. Both meetings will be held in Room 443 of Montgomery Park, 2701 N.W.
