More MEMO Calendar Items... For the people, by the people The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan group dedicated to increasing citizen participation in the government. They also seek to influence public policy through advocacy and education. Join in to keep the peoples voice in government. The League of Women Voters meets at 10 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month at the Airport Shilo Inn, 11707 N.E. Airport Way. Early morning Samaritans Help humanity and enjoy a game of bingo with the Mall 205 Early Risers Kiwanis Club. This lively group spends every Thursday morning discussing ways to be of service to the community, by supporting such organizations as Snow-CAP and the East Portland Community Center. Each weeks meeting also includes a special program with guest speaker as well as a bingo game. The Early Risers meet at 7 a.m. every Thursday at the Old Country Buffet in Plaza 205, at 10542 S.E. Always something to do The Gateway Elks offer the chance to help others in the community, such as youth and veterans, as well as an opportunity to improve the Gateway area. Get results you can see reflected in the improvement of the community. Elk membership also opens new social doors. The Lodge regularly holds functions of all sorts. From a Crusin Car Show to a Valentine Sweetheart Ball, the Elks have it all. Events for June include a bingo game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5 and a Flag Program held at the lodge meeting on Thursday, June 13. The Gateway Elks hold regular lodge meetings on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. in the Gateway Elks Lodge, 711 N.E. 100th Ave. The Elks offer the public the chance to support groups through recycling. Donate to the paper recycling drop-box in the Lodge parking lot to help the Youth Activities Fund, supporting groups such as our area Boy Scout troops. Donate colored glass and cardboard at the recycle donation area on the north side of the Lodge in the RV parking lot to help support veterans in hospitals. Do your part to ensure a strong community. Make local connections The 82nd and Foster Business Association invites area business owners and managers to expand their contacts and enjoy good company at the next monthly luncheon. Enjoy food and companionship while expanding business contacts. The next meeting will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11 in the New Copper Penny Restaurant on the corner of S.E. 92nd Ave. and Foster Rd. Get rid of your cans and support Parkrose High Every month, the Parkrose High Bronco Boosters give local residents a chance to support the school. Instead of setting out your recyclable cans and bottles for the trash men to pick up, save them to donate to Parkrose High students. Contribute to our childrens education and protect the earth at the same time. The Bronco Boosters accept donations of soda and beer cans and bottles in the east parking lot of Parkrose High School Community Center, 12003 N.E. Shaver St. Bronco Boosters will be there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 to collect donations. Or perhaps youre worried about security. Help shape your neighborhood by participating in your neighborhood association. Neighborhood associations provide a place for differences between neighbors to be worked out, and community issues to be solved. They also provide an opportunity to plan for neighborhood events such as fairs or neighborhood yard sales.
