It moved, it's improved, and it's returning this year.

The Parkrose Business Association's Parkrose Festival and Cruise-In is set for Saturday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. into the evening hours.

This is the first year for the Parkrose Festival and the seventh year for the PBA Cruise-In.

The Parkrose Festival and Cruise-In will be held between Northeast 105th and 112th avenues on Sandy Boulevard in the heart of the Parkrose business district. The Portland Police Bureau's reserve force will be on hand to ensure safety in all areas of the event.

Festivities include a beer garden, dance band, local vendors and food. The Cruise-In will feature at least 100 classic and vintage vehicles, with sponsored trophies for the best in show. Awarding the trophies will be Portland Mayor-elect Sam Adams, Mrs. Oregon Taryn Stastny and PBA college scholarship award recipients.

Included in the Cruise-In will be the "blow-up cars," in which two cars are emptied of their transmissions and motor oil and run until their demise.

Organizers invite the whole family to come and enjoy all the fun.

The Parkrose Festival and Cruise-In on Sandy Boulevard – no longer a Portland Rose Festival event due to its later date but still planned and produced by the PBA – replaces the annual PBA Cruise-In formerly held at Parkrose High School Community Center.

The event raises funds to provide scholarships for Parkrose High School seniors. It also raises funds for enhancement projects in the Parkrose business district to help make the area a more desirable place to visit and shop in.

Raffles will also be held. Two major prizes are a state-of-the-art barbecue, provided by Rex Heating & Air Conditioning, along with a set of four tires and wheels, provided by Bob Brown Tires and sponsored by West Coast Bank.

An authentic Swedish pancake breakfast kicks off the affair at 9 a.m.

Cascade Athletic Clubs will have a children's activities area.

The PBA's goal this year is to expand the event to include all of the merchants in Parkrose.

"This is a Parkrose event," said Marsha Lee, PBA treasurer and coordinator, "and we're still open to new ideas."

For more information, go to the PBA Web site at www.parkrosebusiness.org or call Lee at 503-257-3229.
