THE MID-COUNTY MEMO
As part of the reporting on the East Portland Neighborhood Office, I attended a meeting of the chairwomen and chairmen of the various neighborhood associations representing EPNO and Mid-Multnomah County on Nov. 1.
What I came away with was a sense that the city brings its plans to those chairs, who are basically average citizens, so those citizens have a chance to ask pertinent questions.
What I came to appreciate was that those chairs had a chance to discuss among themselves, and with city representatives, their concerns ranging from traffic congestion resulting from a proposed project to environmental issues.
What I also came to realize was that many of those neighborhood association chairs have lived in the area, in a specific home, for decades. They know the streets. They know the businesses around them. Those people have an intimate, detailed insight into their neighborhoods, and therefore can represent their neighborhoods well.
The Memo also provides an avenue to citizen opinion through its Web log, or blog, site. Just go to www.midcountymemo.com and click on the blog icon. The Memo invites all its readers to chime in with their opinions.
