Memo Calendar...

The Mid-county Memo is a newspaper dedicated to serving the community. One of the best ways to do this is by informing Memo readers of upcoming events of interest and meetings of groups they might like to join. Help connect our community! If you are part of a group that you enjoy, let your neighbors know about it. Publicize your special event or fundraiser here in the Mid-county Memo Calendar section.

Submissions for each month are due by the 15th of the previous month. Please have Calendar submissions for March in by Monday, Feb. 17. We prefer e-mailed submissions sent to Dawn Widler, Department Editor at editor@midcountymemo.com. You may also mail complete information to 4052 N.E. 22nd Ave., Portland, OR, 97212-1503, phone 503-287-8904 or fax 503-249-7672.

Special Events
Victorian Valentines
Bring your Valentine to the Zimmerman Heritage Farmhouse, 17111 N.E. Sandy Blvd on Saturday, February 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Victorian Valentines saved by the Zimmerman family will be on display. Fee for the public tour is $3.00 per person 12 years and older.

From 1869 until 1992, the farmhouse was inhabited continuously by the Zimmerman family, making it a unique and special experience. An intact collection of this size, exclusively owned by one family that remained in the same house for over 120 years, is rare among historical house museums throughout the United States.

To inquire about private tours for groups or organizations, call 503-261-8078. To learn more, visit the Fairview-Rockwood-Wilkes Historical Society website at www.frwh.org.

Be creative with your kids
One of the things that sets Montavilla Community Center apart from other community centers is their parent-child art classes.

For parents with a child from 18 months to 4 years, workshops include a chance to share the sentiment of Valentine’s Day and celebrate creativity. Make something special together to show all the cupids in your life that you care in “Va-va-voom Valentines.” Parents and kids can also blast off to other galaxies. Climb aboard a rocket ship and explore the wonder of space through art. Together, stimulate imaginative play, coordination and cooperative skills in “Pluto, Jupiter and Mars.” Of course kids won’t want to miss “Messy Art - A Whale of a Time.” This workshop allows parents and children to use self-expression and creativity together discovering ocean animals and other aquatic delights using a variety of art media and activities that awaken and stimulate the imagination.

For older children (9 and up) and their parent, Montavilla Community Center offers several classes including “Manicure Madness” and “Elegant Etiquette.” All classes will be held at Montavilla Community Center, 8219 N.E. Glisan St. For more information or to sign up, please call Montavilla Community Center at 503-823-PLAY.
