Tile and flooring expert opens in Parkrose
Madden Tile and Floors is owned and operated by Mike Madden. Madden spent 12 years working with at-risk youth and then as a manager in local nonprofits. He began doing tile work on the side about seven years ago, which led to Pergo floor installations, wood floor installations and wood floor refinishing. He enjoys taking a customer’s vision and turning it into functional reality at a reasonable cost.

Madden and his wife, Terese Ueland, live in Parkrose Heights with their three children: Hannah, 12; Samuel, 7, and Zachariah, 2.

While his work takes him all over the Portland metro area, Madden especially enjoys meeting and working with his Mid-county neighbors.

Madden Tile and Floors celebrated its grand opening in October. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 503-577-7213 to brighten your home with new flooring or tile.

Growth brings expansion to counseling center
For 23 years, the Northwest Catholic Counseling Center has assisted thousands of families and individuals in building a stronger life and future. In order to continue to uphold their mission of providing help and creating hope, NCCC has experienced steady growth over the past decade. Past Executive Director Barbara Kennedy is now the center’s clinical director. Effective last month, the new executive director is Portia Sipes. Thanks to the generosity of the Meyer Memorial Trust, NCCC has added office space, installed a new phone system, purchased new computers and acquired new furnishings.

The nonprofit counseling center offers a wide variety of services. Individual, couple and family counseling and mediation are provided by trained therapists whose goal is resolution and skill building. Individual, couple and child therapy is also available. Pre-marriage preparation offers classes, couple sessions or a combination of both over the course of a year.

The counseling staff also offers seminars on diverse topics at the center as well as in community settings. Consultation is available for individuals and groups. All counseling staff therapists are professionally trained and hold a master’s level degree.

The NCCC is located at 8383 N.E. Sandy Blvd., Suite 205. For more information call 503-253-0964 or visit www.nwcounseling.org.

Tomboy Tools makes debut in Parkrose
Tomboy Tools is a direct seller of ergonomically designed hand and power tools marketed specifically to the needs of women. The mission is to build confidence and empower women through hands-on education, quality and an independent business opportunity.

Parkrose resident Tamra Swerdlik was looking for a business opportunity to pursue upon retirement from the federal government when she found Tomboy Tools. The opportunity offered fun, satisfaction and the benefits of operating a home-based business. Swerdlik provides a hands-on demonstration and explanation to women and sells tools through tool parties and workshops.

She has observed the empowerment that can occur when a woman learns how to tackle a home do-it-yourself project for the first time. The current tight economy lends itself to taking on such improvements.

For details about Tomboy Tool parties, workshops or business opportunities, please e-mail tomboytooltime@yahoo.com or call 503-329-4196.
