Not the breakfast of champions?
A question for candidates

To the editor:

I am a resident of Parkrose School District, and a parent of children who attend school in the district.

I have a question for all candidates for Parkrose Board of Education positions regarding a program called Breakfast in the Classroom which has recently been implemented in our schools.

I, and several other parents, have had some pretty serious concerns regarding this program since before its recent expansion into all Parkrose schools. I would be happy to provide you details of both the specific issues, and the ways in which we have attempted to have them addressed by the district, should you be interested.

We have attempted, on several occasions and in several different venues, to have our concerns addressed by the district. Unfortunately, the district has chosen to refuse to address these concerns.

I am wondering if I could count on you, should you be elected to the Parkrose School Board, to ensure that the district responds to those concerns.

Parkrose resident

Speed kills

To the editor:

Hi neighbors. We live in a great neighborhood specifically the Parkrose area. A couple of nice schools on Sacramento and Knott. A nice park, Knott Park, that gets a lot of use with youth soccer, baseball, people jogging and walking, kids biking, dogs fetching, etc.

But, there is a problem that has been ongoing since I've been in the neighborhood, which is just over 15 years. It is speeding. Some people think that 117th between San Rafael and Fargo, going both ways, is an extension of Portland International Raceway.

Lately I've noticed a young male who has been zipping by Knott Park on a motorcycle, with all the kids riding bikes, people walking, etc., at excessive speeds. I estimate his speed the times I've seen him at over 60 mph.

This is not acceptable.

This has to stop.

I've contacted the Parkrose neighborhood police, two police officers that are assigned to this area. I urge you to contact these police officers when you see people exceeding the speed limit, which is 25 MPH on 117th.

Get a license plate; get video. Only by you and me bringing this to the attention of the Portland police can we get this aberrant, illegal behavior stopped. Let's get it stopped before some innocent neighbor is hurt or killed.

Here is the contact information for Officer Corona: 503-823-4857.
