NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETINGS
Leaf drop off still available at Floyd Light Middle School in December
The East Portland Neighborhood Office has arranged a leaf drop-off site at Floyd Light Middle School, Southeast 108th Avenue and Washington Street, on Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 10. Fall leaf recycling depots are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents are invited to bring leaf debris only, no other yard debris. The material will be recycled into high quality compost. A carload will cost $1; a truck, SUV or trailer load is $4; and a truck and trailer combination is $5. Commercial haulers with a maximum of 5 yards of leaf debris will pay $30.

Toddler Storytime: Storytime for children 24 to 36 months with adult. Mondays through Dec. 11 from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.

Pajama Time: Bedtime stories for the whole family. Wednesdays through Dec. 13 from 7 to 7:30 p.m.

Tiny Tots: Storytime for children 12 to 24 months with adult. Thursdays through Dec. 14 from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.

Preschool Storytime: Storytime for children 3 to 6 years with adult. Fridays through Dec. 15 from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.

Bilingual Storytime: Presented in Spanish and English for children of all ages. Tuesdays through Dec. 12 from 4 to 4:30 p.m.

Artist Trading Cards: Create your own trading cards using colored pencils, rubber stamps, collage and more. You may keep your cards or trade with other artists. Saturday, Dec. 9, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Teen Lounge and Homework Center: Use library computers to access the Internet and do word processing, get homework help from trained staff and online tutors, or just do your homework and listen to music while hanging out in beanbag chairs. For teens in grades 6-12. Thursdays through Dec. 14 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Holiday/Seasonal Card Making: Create unique gift cards using a print-making method with artist Colleen Cavin. Saturday, Dec. 2, from noon to 2 p.m.

Winter Luminarias: Artist Kathy Karbo shows you how to create decorative paper luminarias that glow with color and light. For teens in grades 6 and up. Space at this program is limited. Free tickets for seating will be available 30 minutes prior to the program. Sunday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Read to the Dogs SM: Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from the DoveLewis Animal Assisted Therapy and Education Program. Registration is required. Call 503-988-5386. Sunday, Dec. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Language Exchange: Engage in conversation with native English speakers who want to practice their Spanish and with native Spanish speakers who want to practice their English. Saturdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Pageturners: Engage in stimulating conversation about books, exchange perspectives about characters and plot, and get to know your neighbors. Friends of the Library sponsor this community book club. Read "A Thread of Grace" by Mary Doria Russell for discussion on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Computer Lab: Lab assistants are available to help beginners practice their computer skills. Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m., except Dec. 23.

Web Basics: Learn about the World Wide Web, explore the library's home page, and practice entering Web addresses. Participants need to be comfortable using a keyboard and a mouse. Registration is required. Register online, in the library or by calling 503-988-5234. Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Searching the Web: Prerequisite: Web basics or Internet experience. This class combines Web Searching I and II so you can learn several Web searching tools at once. Registration is required. Register online, in the library or by calling 503-988-5234. Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Talk Time: Talk Time is an informal conversation circle for non-native speakers to practice speaking English. Sign up in advance at the library, or just come to any session. Mondays from 6 to 7:30 p.m., except Dec. 25.

Beyond the Border -- Musical Stories of Latin America: Author Lynn Darroch presents a series of narratives about musicians, authors and others in the Latin world that are set to music performed live by guitarist Alfredo Muro and accompanied by percussionist Dave Fischer. Sunday, Dec. 10, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The book to be discussed on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 6:45 to 8 p.m., is "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" by Alexander McCall Smith. On Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 1 to 2:15 p.m., the group will talk about "The Sunday Philosophy Club" also by Alexander McCall Smith.

Medicare Part D Enrollment Assistance: Trained counselors will be on hand to help you figure out which prescription assistance programs you qualify for.
