Composed of nine teams (Parkrose, Wilshire Riverside, St Helens, Rose City, Rainier, Hollywood, Scappoose, Clatskanie and Peninsula)-divided into one group of four teams and one of five for pool play-the 2010 Oregon District 1 Little League Baseball Tournament was held last month at Riverside Field in Northeast Portland.

Parkrose went 2-2 in the first round, advancing to the finals on a run differential tie-breaker.

Seeded fourth in the second round, Parkrose faced St. Helens in their first game. Parkrose, leading most of the game, gave way to the eventual champions late in the contest, losing 10-6.

Players representing Parkrose on the 2010 Baseball All-Star team were Antonio Cano, Gunner Schlichting, Paul Donnerberg, Marc Weeks, Anthony Garcia, Markus Golder, Ryan Shimojima, Huston Emmons, Stephen Erickson, Brock Deletts, Josh Livingston and Brandon Rinesmith. Erik Emmons and John Schlichting coached the Parkrose All-stars.

Congratulations to the Parkrose Softball All-Stars, who won the 2010 District 1 Little League Softball championship at the tournament held last month in Scappoose. The last time the Parkrose Softball All-Stars hoisted a championship banner was in 1993.

Advancing to the state tournament-also held in Scappoose-they went winless in pool play, which included a tilt with eventual state champion Pendleton.

Parkrose softball players and their families noticed and appreciated Parkrose fans who made both trips to Scappoose to cheer the girls on.
