Gateway area loses influential leader
Hoefling owned and operated Fast Print and Copy Center on Northeast Glisan Street near 122nd Avenue for a number of years before the property was redeveloped. He was also a journalist, an executive director of business and professional associations, and an avid skier. Associates remember him as organized, meticulous and detail oriented with a wry sense of humor. His life-long passion for skiing began as a child getting to school during Wisconsin winters. His ski involvement included owning and directing Western Ski Pros Ski School. He was a volunteer ski patrolman, ski instructor, certification examiner, co-founder and director of Northwest Pro Ski Tour, and wrote many articles and columns for skiing publications. Hoefling was awarded a lifetime honorary membership in the North American Snowsports Journalists Association. Hoefling attended Gresham High School, followed by Lewis & Clark College. He also served in the U.S. Navy. Dedication to his community included nine years as a captain in the Police Reserves, serving on the board of directors of many business and neighborhood organizations, including the Eastside Professional Association, Parkrose Business Association and Hazelwood Neighborhood Association Born in Washburn, Wis. on May 29, 1927, Hoefling came to Portland in 1942. He married June Holmes in 1949. His wife June, daughter Vicki Andersen and son-in-law Ron Andersen survive him. The family suggests remembrances to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame, P.O.
