SnowCap to showcase community gardens SnowCap Community Charities has scheduled its annual garden party for Friday, Sept. 19 to highlight the ability of backyard gardens to grow diet-critical fresh produce. The event is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. at the SnowCap Community Garden, 17805 S.E. Stark St. The garden party will include a taco buffet, a salsa contest and entertainment. Garden participants will have an opportunity to showcase their crops. More than 30 gardeners have participated in SnowCaps community garden project this year. Forty years of food boxes has taught us that one (of) the best ways to reduce hunger and provide nutrition is to grow your own, said Judy Alley, SnowCap executive director. SnowCap expanded its community garden this spring, adding additional plots that were quickly reserved by low-income families. The public is invited to participate in this festive event. Admission is free but reservations are required. Call Dolores at 503-674-8785, ext. 17, now to hold your spot. Donations to SnowCap will be accepted.
