Oregon College of Oriental Medicine has selected Rhenna St. Clair as alumni development and continuing education coordinator. St. Clair is a 2000 graduate of the OCOM master’s program. After graduation, she practiced acupuncture in New Mexico for seven years.

In this new position, St. Clair will provide support to OCOM graduates by coordinating alumni events and activities, helping alumni volunteers develop an alumni association, producing an alumni newsletter and arranging educational opportunities.

“I want to facilitate ease of communication between OCOM and its graduates and enable alumni to communicate among themselves, so they may exchange treatment strategies and share practice management and development information,” St. Clair said.

St. Clair will also coordinate OCOM’s annual continuing education seminar series for acupuncturists and other practitioners around the Northwest. These seminars provide new practitioners with valuable skills to help them succeed in the field and challenging course material for seasoned practitioners who have mastered the basics. The seminars also allow practitioners to earn required credits to maintain licensure.

In her spare time, St. Clair practices tai chi and qigong, paints in oil and watercolor, studies the Chinese language, spends time with her family and friends, and shops at farmers’ markets. St. Clair returned to Oregon after spending time in New Mexico because of her desire to be back in the Northwest.

“I am very pleased to be able to work for the college where I earned my master’s degree in Oriental medicine and to help my fellow alums improve their practices using the resources OCOM has to offer,” she said.

OCOM opens low-cost acupuncture clinic
Mid-county’s Oregon College of Oriental Medicine has opened a clinic in the Hollywood district in Northeast Portland. The appropriately named OCOM Hollywood Square Clinic is located in the Hollywood Square Building, 1827 N.E. 44th Avenue #305, between Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Broadway Street.

The opening of this new location follows OCOM’s commitment to serving the community and providing exemplary and affordable patient care in the Portland Metro area. OCOM interns and clinic supervisors will offer acupuncture treatments for only $12, as compared to the typical $50 to $90 charged by licensed acupuncturists.

“We’re excited to make this medicine available at such a low cost,” said OCOM’s clinic director, Robert Kaneko. “Our student interns have had great success providing acupuncture to patrons of the Hollywood Senior Center. We’re happy to open this second location in the neighborhood so we can offer acupuncture to anyone who wants to experience it.”

The OCOM Hollywood Square Clinic is composed of four individual treatment rooms, one conference room and a waiting area. The location offers convenient street and lot parking.

The clinic currently offers appointments on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. Individuals can make appointments at 503-281-1917.

OCOM’s first clinic, the OCOM Acupuncture and Herbal Clinic, is located near Mall 205 at 10541 S.E. Cherry Blossom Drive, where interns and licensed acupuncturists have been treating patients with acupuncture, herbs and Oriental therapeutic massage since 1997. While OCOM interns have been providing acupuncture at community clinics in the Portland Metro area for approximately 10 years, the OCOM Hollywood Square Clinic is the first satellite clinic operated solely by OCOM.
