Spaghetti dinner to benefit youth
The Gateway Elks Lodge #2411 Fourteenth Annual Community Charity Spaghetti Dinner will be held at the Gateway Elk’s Lodge 711 N.E. 100th Ave. on Sunday, November 2, from noon to 6 p.m..

The funds from this dinner are used to support various youth functions within the greater Gateway Community including: Scout recognition awards, scholarships for graduating high school seniors, annual co-ed free throw contest, drug free graduation parties, Meadowood Springs Speech and Hearing Camp for children in Pendleton, Oregon, the Elk Children’s Eye Clinic at the Casey Eye Institute at OHSU, and the annual donation of 300 Christmas food baskets.

Held in conjunction with the Gateway Elkettes Christmas Bazaar, this “all you can eat” spaghetti dinner will be served to adults for $6.00, children under 12 for $3.00 and children under 3 are free. The bazaar will run November 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers as well as Christmas decorations. A large selection of hand-crafted items will be available.

Gateway Elks Lodge #2411 is celebrating its 34th anniversary as a Gateway Community neighbor and is reaching out to members and friends to join them in a day of friendship and good food.

Fall festival and bazaar
St. Rita Catholic Church’s annual Fall Festival and Bazaar is set for Friday and Saturday, November 7 and 8 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Featured are many new vendor tables as well as a boutique, baked goods, fresh produce and white elephants.

Lunch will be served all day.

More spaghetti
St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 11229 N.E. Prescott is hosting their second annual Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, October 11.

Dinner will be served from 5:30-7 p.m. and is all you can eat spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and spumoni ice cream.

Tickets will be available at the door. Prices are $6 for adults, $4 for children 5-12. Children 4 and under are free. A family ticket can be purchased for $15.00.

Haunted hayrides
Parents of Parkrose High School seniors will hold a haunted hay ride through the cornfields and pumpkin patch of the Rossi Farm the last three weekends in October (October 17,18,19,24,25,26,31 and November 1) to raise money for the Senior All-Night Party in June. Rides begin at 6 p.m. and will run until 9 p.m. Admission will be $7, $6 for those in costume, $5.00 children 12 & under. The Rossi Farm is located across from the high school at 3839 N.E. 122nd Ave.

The mother mouse must save the day by demonstrating her ability to speak another language. “Hay Caramba” presents this Spanish-English bilingual production with storytelling, music and a parade of shadow puppets created in a pre-performance workshop for families.

Wednesday, October 8, 7-8:30 p.m. read “The Secret Life of Bees” by Sue Monk Kidd. When her African-American nanny is thrown into jail for attempting to vote during the 1964 Civil Rights movement, 14-year-old Lily rescues her and the two set across South Carolina to begin a new life.

Wednesday, October 15, 1-2:30 p.m. read “A Collection of Beauties at the Height of Their Popularity” by Whitney Otto and meet the author. Set in 1980s San Francisco, this novel features a cast of educated, underemployed late-20- and early-30-somethings who meet night after night at a North Beach bar called the Youki Sing Tea Room.

• Cyber Seniors Computer Classes: This series of three classes is designed for seniors who are interested in learning the very basics of how to use a computer.
