School Corner

Cans for the kids
Every month, the Parkrose High Bronco Boosters give local residents a chance to support the school. Instead of setting out your recyclable cans and bottles for the trash men to pick up, save them to donate to Parkrose High. Contribute to our children’s education and protect the earth at the same time.

The Bronco Boosters accept donations of soda and beer cans and bottles in the east parking lot of Parkrose High School Community Center, 12003 N.E. Shaver St. Bronco Boosters will be there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 to collect donations. For more information about donations or how to help, please call Sharon Mershon at 503-252-7139.

Retirees still involved
The East Multnomah chapter of the Oregon Retired Educators Association may have stopped teaching, but they continue to support our children by supporting local schools. All retired educators are invited to come enjoy the company and learn what they can do to benefit local school programs.

In October, anyone interested in education is welcome to attend. The guest speaker will be Max Wilkins, Vice Chairman of “Health Care For All - Oregon.” He will tell you all about Measure 23 on the November General Election Ballot. It is the only universal health care measure in any state available for a vote of the people. You will hear about the benefits of the package and the features of the Measure that make is accessible to every resident in Oregon should it pass. His report will include the proposed financing, governance, and administration of Measure 23.

The meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Refectory Restaurant, 1618 N.E. 122nd Ave. A noon lunch will be served, and the $9 fee includes gratuity. Reservations are required. Please call Jo Curry at 503-254-5923 before Monday, Oct. 21 for your reservation.
