Last year saw the return of Fun-O-Rama days including the parade and carnival. While changing business climates caused a cutback of these events a few years ago, the Gateway Area Business Association (GABA) recognizes the value of this community wide celebration and has once again fully embraced the idea. GABA has been busy in the months since, planning more events and enhancing the existing ones.
The Fun-O-Rama Golf tournament at Glendoveer Golf Course will be the opening event of this annual celebration. On Saturday, May 10, area golfers will tee-off to win cash prizes and bragging rights until the tournament next year. Some refreshments will be provided and door prizes will be handed out at the conclusion of the tournament. First and second place teams, KP and more will receive awards. Because a scramble format is being used, anyone can win, so sign up and join the fun. Contact Marlo Rivers at 503-258-3608 to register.

Beginning Thursday, May 15 and running through Sunday, May 18 will be the Fun-O-Rama Carnival. New carnival operators, Davis Amusement Cascadia of Clackamas, veterans of events such as the Albany Timber Carnival, the Lebanon Strawberry Festival and the Utah State Fair will bring fifteen rides, mid-way games and concessions for the whole family. Family owned and operated, the third generation of Davis will bring the vacant lot at Northeast 104th Avenue and Wasco Street to life. The carnival will serve as a festive community meeting place for five days. We are thrilled to have such well established carnival operators as part of Fun-O-Rama and look forward to a long relationship with Davis Amusement Cascadia, says GABA Vice President Tim Curran. Unlimited ride tickets can be purchased for $10 in advance of the carnival at Washington Mutual Bank -1515 N.E. 112th Ave. and Northeast 102nd Avenue and Halsey Street; Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization - 10301 N.E. The much-anticipated Fun-O-Rama parade will be Saturday, May 17, beginning at 10:30 a.m. It will travel Northeast Halsey Street from 122nd Avenue, west to 102nd Avenue. Following the parade, Gateway area merchants and community groups present the GABA Community Fair from 1-4 p.m. at 111th Square, Northeast Halsey at 111th Avenue. Visit displays featuring food, games and prizes. Enjoy local entertainment. Be on hand for raffle prize drawings which include a Playstation 2 Deluxe Package, a 6 month Cascade Athletic Club 205 membership, a bicycle, gift certificates and more.
