Join the swim team
Parkrose Swim Club is holding tryouts for new swimmers Wednesdays, at 6 p.m. at the Parkrose Community Center pool, located at Parkrose High School Community Center, 12003 N.E. Shaver St.

Parkrose Swim Club is a year-round program, with a certified and experienced coaching staff.

Scheduled practices are held between 5 and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Parkrose Swim Club accepts swimmers ages five to eight that are water safe in shallow and deep water and swimmers ages nine and up with knowledge of the freestyle and backstroke.

Lenten services
Celebration of the Easter season at The Grotto, Northeast 85th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard, will feature the following services:

• Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Fridays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on March 4, 11 and 18.
• Via Matris - The Way of Our Sorrowful Mother, Fridays at 3 p.m. on March 4, 11 and 18. This traditional Servite devotion follows the pattern of the Stations of the Cross, offering a time of prayer and reflection upon the Seven Sorrows of Mary.
• Passion (Palm) Sunday Mass, 10 a.m. on March 20. Weather permitting, the blessing and distribution of palms will be held outdoors followed by Mass in the Chapel of Mary.
• Holy Thursday-Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:30 p.m. on March 24. The Grotto’s regularly scheduled noon Mass is not celebrated on Holy Thursday.
• Good Friday-Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on March 25 at 7:30 p.m. The regular noon Mass is not celebrated on Good Friday.
• Holy Saturday-Easter Vigil at 7:30 p.m. on March 26. The 8 a.m. Mass is not celebrated on Holy Saturday.
• Easter Sunday Masses will be celebrated at 10 a.m. and noon on March 27.

The Grotto also offers Taize Prayer on the third Sunday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Mary. Taize Prayer is an ecumenical meditative service, where one invites God’s presence to penetrate one’s innermost being. This form of prayer comes from the Christian monastic community of Taize, located in the heart of the Burgundy region in France. For additional information call 503-254-7371.

Easter season services
New Life - Eastminster Presbyterian Church and Open Door Fellowship will celebrate Palm Sunday March 20 with a combined English Service at 9:45 a.m. and a Korean Language Service at 11:30 a.m. Holy Week Services include an English combined service at 7:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday, March 24 and a Korean Combined Service (English Translation Available) Good Friday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 27 there will be a Korean Language Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. and a combined English/Korean Language Service at 11 a.m. Open Door Fellowship will hold an Easter Service at 5:30 p.m. All services are at 12505 N.E. Halsey St. in the New Life-Eastminster Presbyterian Church building. Visitors are welcome to worship at these special holiday services.

SENIOR RESOURCES
Breast health for older women
Representatives from Elders in Action will be on hand at Firwood Gardens, 819 N.E. 122nd Ave., on Friday, March 11 to provide information about the issue of breast health for older women. This free, informal lecture and discussion session begins at 2:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

Diet and aging
Learn about nutrition for successful aging. Certified Nutritional Therapist Sarah Chamberlain will offer a free lecture on Tuesday, March 15 at 1 p.m. at CherryWood Village, 1417 S.E. 107th Ave.

Blood pressure clinic
Free blood pressure screenings are offered twice monthly, in the YWCA Senior Services program office at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave. The sessions are held the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Call 503-988-6073 for information.

Put a spring in your step
A Foot Care Clinic will soothe Mid-County feet at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave. The YWCA Senior Services is sponsoring these clinics, where professional nurses will soak participant’s feet and clip their toenails. The initial visit is $22, with future appointments costing $20. Clinics are scheduled throughout March, April and May. Appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, call 503-988-6073.
