Exceptional teen is honored
Congratulations to the Gateway Elks Teenager of the Month for June, Ashley Moulton. Moulton is a senior at David Douglas High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society with a GPA of 3.65. She is the editor of the staff section of the school yearbook and has been given the challenging Sporting Event Photographer assignment.

Moulton is also a member of the Link Crew, helping new freshmen to become acclimated to their new surroundings. She is on a volleyball team that has been together since the sixth grade. She takes pride in the team’s many accomplishments. This year, for the first time since 1994, David Douglas competed in the State Volleyball Championship and finished in the top ten.

Moulton began her volunteer work at the age of 14, helping to prepare and mail patient notices for the American Lung Association. In her sophomore year, she administered eye tests to 200 children at Lincoln Park Elementary and Alice Ott Middle School. In another project, she and a group of her fellow students collected food, basic supplies, and $500 to be used by patients and their families at the Ronald McDonald House and the Oregon Health Sciences University.

This past summer, Moulton worked at Delta Park preparing the softball and soccer fields, weeding, and doing various other custodial chores. She also spent 75 hours volunteering at the Portland Adventist Medical Center where she helped run the front desk, worked in the gift shop and delivered items to the patients. She also delivered STAT files to the emergency room, delivered medicine and assisted patients as they were discharged.

Moulton has been accepted and will begin this fall at Oregon State University, majoring in General Science with a minor in Pharmacy. The Mid-county Memo wishes Ashley Moulton the best in her future endeavors.

Avoid the worst road hazard - other drivers
The American Association of Retired People regularly offers a “55 Alive” defensive driving course. This course helps teach older citizens strategies of safe driving. Not only will you avoid costly tickets, fines, and accidents, but the “55 Alive” driving course can also help save you money on your car insurance - check with your insurance provider. The class is a refresher course in driving skills and general information, available to anyone aged 55 or over. All this is offered for a fee of just $10.
