Credit union gives SnowCap a boost for third year

For The Mid County MEMO

SnowCap volunteers, Les Parker and George Smith, prepare to pick up food donations collected by Unitus Community Credit Union members and employees at the credit union main office in downtown Portland. “They’re in our warehouse volunteering all the time,” according to Judy Alley of SnowCap.

Unitus Community Credit Union, a 67-year-old credit union serving six Oregon counties, with a branch located at 10555 S.E. Washington St., supported SnowCap for it’s third consecutive year this year.

Donating $5 for each membership and checking account opened between Nov. 15 and Dec. 15, Unitus collected over $3,300 for SnowCap. In addition to the money raised for SnowCap, members and employees of Unitus were asked to contribute non-perishable food items so that individuals and families in need this holiday season would not have to go without food.

“One of the most important credit union philosophies is ‘People Helping People,’ ” stated Patricia Smith, President and CEO of Unitus. “As a credit union, we are proud to devote our time and attention—particularly during the holiday season—to families and individuals at risk in our community.”

Last year, Unitus Community Credit Union collected over 2,400 non-perishable food items. This year, Unitus collected almost 2,500 items.

SnowCap provides food and clothing to over 4,000 underprivileged families in Multnomah county, and has been working diligently to serve the under-served for over 37 years. To learn more about SnowCap or Unitus Community Credit Union’s work with the non-profit organization, please contact Mandi Linstrom at 503-227-5571, ext. 346.
