Public forum with your congressman
Please come and talk about issues that matter most to you and your neighborhood. U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer is holding a forum for Portland neighborhood association board members, officers, and other interested residents to share their views about what Portland needs. Attend this meeting, and make sure your voice is heard on important issues:

40th reunion
Calling all 1963 Parkrose Senior High School graduates. Your 40th reunion will span the third full weekend in August. Classmates only are invited to gather at Jim Dandy’s Drive-In at Northeast 96th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15.
Saturday, August 16, will feature a banquet at the Hill House at the Persimmon Country Club, 8015 S.E. Hogan Road, in Gresham at 6:30 p.m. This event welcomes spouses or guests as well as grads.
Arrangements have been made for golf at Persimmon Golf Course in Gresham and bowling at Kellogg Bowl in Milwaukie.

A movie and a dip
What could be more fun that your favorite movie while floating in a swimming pool? Montavilla Pool presents “Lilo & Stitch” as its Dive-In Movie feature on Tuesday August 19. The pool is located at 8219 N.E. Glisan. For more information call 503-823-3675.

Adventure in the wellfield: A groundwater treasure hunt
Join the Columbia Slough Watershed Council and the Portland Bureau of Water Works for a treasure hunt in the Columbia South Shore Wellfield, the home of Portland’s backup and emergency water supply. Search the wellfield for clues that will lead you to “hidden” treasure! This free family-friendly event is appropriate for all ages. Come prepared to walk and explore. Some driving may be involved. Snacks, music, t-shirts, prizes, and educational games will be provided.
This event will be held on Saturday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

6th Annual Hot August Daze Cruise-In
Gateway Elks Lodge 2411 has planned a Cruise-In for the whole family to enjoy. Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 23 in the Gateway Elks Parking lot, 711 N.E. 100th Ave., two blocks North of Glisan. Lots of nice cars and antique vehicles will be on display for your enjoyment.
The day will start with a donations-only carwash from 8-11 a.m. Hamburgers and beverages will be served in the park from noon until 4 p.m. There will be games and raffle drawings from 1-3:30 p.m. as well as a model car contest.
A dee-jay will provide the entertainment, along with live performances by Gateway’s own Showtime Revue.
The Lodge will serve a Route 66 B-B-Q buffet from 4-8 p.m. followed by a Sock Hop from 8 p.m. to midnight. This event is for adults only and will cost $2 per person.
The Dukes of Portland, a newly formed car club, will assist the Lodge in this day-long event. Proceeds from these activities go to charities within and outside the Lodge. The community is invited to come join in the fun, tour the Gateway Elks Lodge and enjoy a laid back day.

Serving the community
Parkrose Lions Club has been providing services to the needy and to those who have sight and hearing disabilities in our local area for over 70 years. These active community leaders invite you to attend their meeting and find out what they are all about.
The August meetings of the Parkrose Lions Club will be Wednesday, August 6 and Wednesday, August 20 at the Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant, 13816 N.E. Sandy Blvd. Dinner is at 6 p.m. The meeting will begin at 6:30. First timers are treated to a free dinner.

Multnomah County Judge to speak
The Gateway Area Business Association General Membership meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 14 from 11:45-1:00 at JJ North’s Grand Buffet, 10520 N.E. Halsey St. The speaker will be Multnomah County Judge John Wittmayer. His topic is “What’s Happening in the Courts: The Need to keep our Judges Independent.”
The Gateway Area Business Association serves businesses in Gateway, Glisan Street, Mall 205, Menlo Park, Midway, 111th Square, San Rafael and in-between. City Council meetings
Held the first and third Tuesdays of the month, the Maywood Park City Council Meetings are open to all citizens. Residents of Maywood Park are encouraged to attend and to suggest topics for discussion. The council operates by agenda, so items you would like included should be submitted in writing to the City Office at 10100 N.E. Prescott, Maywood Park, OR 97220. Weight loss

You and your neighborhood
Your neighborhood association is your link to City government. If you do not already know which association serves you, contact the East Portland Neighborhood Office (EPNO) to find out. Many of the associations will not hold business meetings in August, but did host an event for the annual National Night Out Celebrations.

The August meeting of the Parkrose Neighborhood Association (PNA) is scheduled for Tuesday August 18 at 7 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 11100 N.E. Shaver St. Nominations for new officers will be accepted at this meeting. Please call PNA chairman Mark Gardner at 503-254-1752 with questions.
Parkrose Heights Association of Neighbors will be holding a Board meeting on Tuesday, August 19 at 7 p.m. in Miller Hall at Parkrose United Methodist Church, 11111 N. E. The Russell Neighborhood Association has no August meeting scheduled.

The Argay Neighborhood Association will not meet in August.
