Years of community planning, design and construction have resulted in the new 8.3-mile Green Line, which will provide service between Clackamas Town Center and Portland State University in downtown Portland.

The I-205 segment of MAX Green Line stretches 6.5 miles and will take riders to eight new stations between Clackamas Town Center and east Portland's Gateway Transit Center. Five stations have Park & Ride lots with a total of 2,300 spaces, including a new parking garage at Clackamas Town Center Transit Center. Each station also has bike parking. At least one TriMet bus line stops near seven of the stations, with 11 bus lines stopping at Clackamas Town Center Transit Center. With more connections, riders along the Green Line can also transfer to Red Line trains at Gateway with service to Portland International Airport.

Public artwork has been installed at each I-205 station and can be viewed from MAX trains and the platforms. The art was created by regional artists with the unifying theme of “Signposts, Symbols and Settlement Stories” as their guide.

“This is our fifth light rail line and the first to Southeast Portland and Clackamas County,” TriMet General Manager Fred Hansen said. “It will provide connections not only along this new alignment, but to the entire 52-mile MAX system.”

Grand opening celebrations the morning of Saturday, Sept. 12 will be followed by a day of free rides on the Green Line beginning at 11:30 a.m. The Green line will run every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. During the early morning and evening hours, trains will run every 30 minutes.

To test the new MAX Green Line systems and train light rail operators, trains are traveling between Gateway Transit Center and the new Clackamas Town Center Transit Center. This means the overhead catenary system of wires that powers the trains is electrified. As with any live electrical wires, please avoid contact with the OCS wires at all times.

All stations and platforms are closed until service begins. MAX trains run any time of day or night, so please be alert and stay safe.

Do not trespass on tracks or at closed platforms and Park & Ride lots. Trespassing is illegal.

Obey all signals at track crossings. Cross tracks only at designated crossings and look both ways before crossing. Don't stop on the tracks while crossing.
