Knott St. on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. There will be a general membership meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26, same time, same place. Glisan St., on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. LIBRARIES Birthday party to feature family entertainment The public is invited to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the opening of the Midland Branch Library building at an open house on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 1 to 5 p.m. The celebration will feature multi-cultural performances including the Vietnamese Dance Team Ballet Popotle performing Mexican folk dancing and Americanistan presenting music from the Middle East. The event will begin with a colorful Chinese Lion Dance by NW Lion Dance, followed by a welcome from Library Director Molly Raphael and a cake-cutting ceremony. There will be crafts during the day, and participants can build their own birdhouses with the Janes Park Group from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments and other activities will also be provided throughout the celebration. Midland Library opened in its Mid-county home in 1996. It replaced the Midland Branch Library building, in operation since 1958. Patrons enjoy its landmark clock tower and its spacious interior with views of Midland Park. At 24,000 square feet, Midland Library is the largest branch in the Multnomah County Library system. At the time it was built, Multnomah Countys Director of Libraries Ginnie Cooper called the structure a 100-year building. Ten years down, ninety to go.
