THE ARTS
PHS presents outdoor theater
The Parkrose High School theatre program is offering “A Midsummer Night of Theatre” on Thursday and Friday, June 1 and 2 at 6:30 p.m. and a matinee performance on Saturday, June 3 at 2 p.m.

All performances will be held in the courtyard at Parkrose High School, 12003 N.E. Shaver St. Bring a picnic and lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy this outdoor theater experience. Tickets are $5 per person.

Each performance will begin with a 30-minute children’s show. The Advanced Theatre Class created this presentation that was performed this spring for district elementary students.

The second offering will be a one-act play by Milcha Sanchez Scott. “Dog Lady” is a satire about a female Hispanic marathon runner and the problems associated with her success.

The performance will conclude with Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” a comedy about two couples in love with the wrong partners, and how they finally find their perfect mates.

To learn more, contact Ms. Zena, PHS theatre director, at 503-408-2621.

THINGS TO DO
Cycle the well field
Join the Portland Water Bureau and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council on Saturday, June 10, for a bicycle tour through Portland’s Groundwater Protection Area. Located in the Columbia Slough Watershed, this well field is capable of producing close to 100 million gallons per day. The well field is used to augment our water supply during the summer when demand for water is higher and as an emergency backup to the Bull Run Reservoirs.
At several stops along the ride, Groundwater Specialist Randy Albright will reveal the mysteries of groundwater, discuss how groundwater provides flexibility and reliability to the city’s water supply, and explain how we can all protect this important groundwater resource. Bring your bike, helmet, water and lunch. Dress for the weather.

The tour is approximately 16 miles over relatively flat terrain at a slow-to-moderate pace. It is suitable for advanced beginners and intermediate riders due to the length and possible headwinds. Ages 12 and up are welcome. Helmets and pre-registration are required.

Riders will begin at the Parkrose/Sumner Transit Center parking lot across the bridge from the MAX Red Line stop at the intersection of Northeast Sandy Boulevard and 95th Avenue.
Space is limited to 25 riders, so register early.

For more information contact Jill Wall at jill.wall@columbiaslough.org or 503-281-1132.
