Memo Calendar (continued) ... Share ice cream with your neighbors Shaver Elementary School invites the community to an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, June 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the school, 3701 N.E. 131st Pl. Support your school The Bronco Boosters, the community-based group organized to support positive opportunities for Parkrose High School, or PHS, seeks new members and leaders at their next meeting on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:00 pm in the PHS library. Bronco Boosters are parents, alumni, staff and Parkrose neighbors, says out-going president, Janet Gardner. Many of our parent leaders are stepping down now that their last children are graduating from PHS. There is room for new leadership, new ideas and energy. The Bronco Boosters raise money for at least six scholarships annually. The club also supports the school with grants and fundraising activities. The June 5 Community Fair, organized by the Boosters, is an annual fundraising opportunity for many school clubs and classes. When the new business teachers at PHS wanted to upgrade the student store, they sought a loan from the Boosters to purchase new merchandise, repaint the store and revitalize the program. The Boosters are more than a Parent Pep Club, says Roy Reynolds, principal of Parkrose High School. I see the Boosters as the key partner who can make great things happen for our students. Parent and community engagement is necessary if PHS is to meet its potential. I encourage the people who have been wanting to help, but havent known where to begin, to get involved with the Boosters. Janet Gardner is stepping down from the presidents position at the June meeting. She invites inquiries about the Boosters officer positions at 503-254-1752.
