Sandy Blvd., has announced that two counselors on staff have won the Michael Lambert, Ph.D. award from the Pacificare Behavioral Health. This award was granted to Barbara Kennedy, LPC and Sarah Deeby, LPC, two counselors who have demonstrated superior clinical outcomes in their work with clients. Pacificare Behavioral Health reports that the Michael Lambert, Ph.D. award was developed to honor mental health therapists on their panel of providers that consistently demonstrate superior clinical outcomes. The clients receiving the services rate the outcomes of therapy. Both Deeby and Kennedy have been counselors with the Center for 18 years. Kennedy also serves as Director for the Counseling Center. We work hard at bringing affordable, professional services to our clients at Northeast Catholic Counseling Center. We are committed to providing services to all clients who seek assistance at our Center. Our goal for our clients is related to the Centers vision, to provide help and create hope. Kennedy goes on to say, The exciting part of the Lambert award for us is that it is determined by our client evaluations, not simply by Pacificare. Our clients are pleased with our services and feel that they have resolved issues and developed healthy skills for life. The Center provides services for those who are insured as well as for those who are not. Our goal is to provide services to all who seek our help, says Kennedy. Through an intern program, as well as some grant assistance, the Center is able to offer a sliding fee scale. This scale allows the Center to assist clients who would not otherwise be able to access professional counseling. The Northeast Catholic Counseling Center can be reached at 503-253-7659. Keep bones healthy for great posture and flexibility Most people are amazed to hear how many bones we have in our bodies, said Michelle Craver, owner of the Slim and Tone 30-Minute Workout for Women located at Northeast 114th Avenue and Halsey Street. We each have over 200 of them. Keeping our bones strong and flexible becomes an acquired skill as we age. Exercise, exercise, exercise. I cant stress it enough as the key to healthy bones. The best defense against developing the bone-degenerating disease known as osteoporosis is to keep an active, healthy lifestyle, according to Teresa Doran - co owner. Bones play multiple roles in your body: they protect internal organs, anchor muscles, store calcium, and provide structure overall. By building strong bones through exercise, Doran says, women help themselves by maintaining good bone density levels. Great posture and flexibility can only come from of a keen awareness of our bones as a critical component of the body. In other words, women really need to focus on bone health and work at incorporating it into an active lifestyle. The Slim and Tone 30-Minute Workout for Women program combines cardiovascular stations with hydraulic resistance machines to create the perfect combination of cardio and strength training that helps build endurance, strong bones, and lean muscle tissue. The clubs fitness plan offers women an efficient, thorough exercise routine that targets the female trouble zones, according to Craver These are the abs, glutes and the upper arms. The program includes a circuit series of machines to work the targeted muscle groups, with alternating intervals that are intended to pump up the cardiovascular system. Experts point to two types of movement that are best for building and maintaining bone mass and density: these are weight-bearing and resistance exercises. At Slim and Tone, women can achieve the optimum levels of both by using equipment that is designed just for them. Bones are constantly changing since they are living tissue, causing them to be affected by diet and exercise, said Doran. Weight-bearing physical activity stimulates new bone tissue to form, which makes bones stronger as a whole. When a busy woman integrates the Slim and Tone 30-Minute program three or four times a week into her regular routine, the benefits manifest themselves quickly. We see women with more energy, stronger muscles and bones, and a happier outlook on life in general, said Craver.
