Memo Letters

The Mid-county Memo is your newspaper. We want to hear from you. Discuss an important issue or address a concern you want to call to the community’s attention. We prefer e-mailed letters to the editor sent to Darlene Vinson, at editor@midcountymemo.com. Please put ‘letter to the editor’ in the subject line. You may also mail your letter to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave., Portland, OR 97230 or fax it to 503-249-7672. Our deadline for the January issue is Thursday, Dec. 15.

To the Editor:

The Portland City Council’s discussion about extending both the area and the duration of the prostitution-free zone in east Portland neighborhoods made me think about the issue of voter owned elections. I think we would have the best representation on issues such as PFZ if we had representatives who were funded with small contributions from community members. That representative is freer to put the community’s concerns first when such issues are decided. We need representatives who are only beholden to community members.
