FUNDRAISERS
Drop off your cans and bottles
As they do each month, the members of the Parkrose High School Boosters will gather at Parkrose Middle School, 11800 N.E. Shaver St., to collect your refundable cans and bottles. Plan to stop by on Saturday, Dec. 3 or on Saturday, Jan. 7 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The group uses the money to support Parkrose High School students and activities.
If you need more information, call Gail Volk at 503-705-3057.
Purchase a piece of history
The Russell Academy Parent Teacher Volunteer group has come up with an innovative fundraising idea.
Parent volunteers worked in August to update the Academy gymnasium. They painted, installed a new drinking fountain, renovated backboards and installed new curtains.
But what to do with the 43-year-old curtain that was replaced? Cut it into 3 inch squares, mount them on a certificate of authenticity that includes some history and offer them for sale, of course.
You can buy a piece of the past for only $5 at the school, 2700 N.E. 127th Ave., or get in touch with Christy Sepich at 503-251-9159.

An old fashioned Christmas
Reliving Radio Theater, presented by the Portland Metro Performing Arts Center and School, takes you back to a post-war radio studio on a holiday evening. You will see how radio was made in the days before television. The evening of classic radio begins with a retelling of Twas the Night Before Christmas by short story writer Paul Galico, adapted by Radio City Playhouse in 1949 and recreated by Reliving Radio. This Christmas tale of a newspaper reporter sent on a fools errand in Brooklyn on Christmas Eve has warmed the hearts of holiday families for over 50 years.
Then, stay tuned as Reliving Radio presents Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, the tale of the miserly Scrooges transformation to kind benefactor, through visits by the ghosts of past, present and future. Using Dickens original text, this radio version is written especially for the community cast of Reliving Radio. Enjoy the live music, experience the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, and see the sound effects that make radio the theater of the imagination.
Radio theater is great entertainment for the whole family. Gather a group from your neighborhood and make this the start of the Christmas season for your family and friends.
Performances will be at the Portland Metro Performing Arts Center and School, 9933 S.E. Pine St., on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec.11 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $5. Some tickets will be available at the door, but reservations are recommended so call 503-408-0604 to seating for your family. Contact relivingradio@karmans.net for group discount for 15 tickets or more.
