Memo Calendar... The Mid-county Memo is a newspaper dedicated to serving the community. One of the best ways to do this is by informing Memo readers of upcoming events of interest and meetings of groups they might like to join. Help connect our community! If you are part of a group that you enjoy, let your neighbors know about it. Publicize your special event or fundraiser here in the Mid-county Memo Calendar section. Submissions for each month are due by the 15th of the previous month. Please have Calendar submissions for January in by Monday, Dec. 16. We prefer e-mailed submissions sent to Dawn Widler, Department Editor at editor@midcountymemo.com. You may also mail complete information to 4052 N.E. 22nd Ave., Portland, OR, 97212-1503, phone 503-287-8904 or fax 503-249-7672. With funding from the Bureau of Environmental Services, Friends of Trees is providing large trees valued from $150 to $400, planting and help with follow-up maintenance, all for only $20. Homes with curbstrips will receive a tree approved for street-tree planting. Homes without curbs or sidewalks are eligible to receive a tree for the front yard. Renters should contact their landlord about taking advantage of this opportunity. Trees provide many benefits to your home. They intercept and store rainwater, provide shade in the summer and protection from harsh weather, create a more serene environment and significantly add to your resale value. The planting date for Parkrose is scheduled for Saturday, April 12. All orders for trees need to be in by Wednesday, Jan. 15. To order a tree, volunteer to help with planting or maintenance, or to get more information, contact the Parkrose Target Area Coordinator, Krystyn Czarnecka at FamilyWorks, 503-256-2330 ext. 26, or email kczarnecka@lcsnw.org.
